Great rainy/snowy day for a hike. It rained for the first mile or two then shifted to snow. I ran into the first patches of snow on the road around 1,900 ft, but they were minor until the fork up the south peak. From the fork, I did the south peak first so that I would hit the cross country section on the ridge on the downhill instead of the uphill. From the junction to the top of the south peak the snow was never more than ankle deep. Usual collection of towers on the summit. I ate half my lunch here and headed into the trees to the northwest. The first few feet had me second guessing the cross country idea, but after less than 50 feet, the forest opened up nicely with minimal undergrowth and just taller trees, I followed the ridge the best I could, but ended up bending right a bit just before the road. I caught the road up Lookout from here. The upper portion of the road had more snow, but with the exception of very few postholes, I was able to keep on the solid stuff with about ankle deep snow on top. The summit is another mess of towers. You would figure that they only need one nest of towers in the area, but both peaks have them. At least this keeps the roads in good shape for peakbaggers! The high point seems to be a large mound next to the higher tower. Not sure if it's natural or not with the snow cover, but it's the highest ground around. I climbed up it for my summit pics. From here, it was just a walk downhill on the road to the car. Easy day. If you look at the gps track, no, I didn't get lost just above the trailhead on the descent. There was a sign indicating a waterfall 1/4 mile away, so I made a quick round trip to check it out. It was nice and flowing pretty well with all of the precipitation. Since I was done early, I checked out the electricity museum in Bellingham - really cool! Pics
