Ascent of Castle Peak on 2013-01-20
|Date:||Sunday, January 20, 2013|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||9103 ft / 2774 m|
Ascent Trip Report Weather was in the low 40 when we started at 0800. Four party members all carrying snowshoes. I was at this peak a week before and conditions were ideal with snow being 4 inches and dry. The snowshoes were ideal to do some back country route blazing. This time was hard packed from a week plus of no storms and heavily traveled with 40 plus people that day. Snowshoes were not needed for the vast majority of the hike. Only at the last 100 yards of the summit push do you need to watch your step. Ice slabs have transformed the north aspect into a “very fun” stretch. If you have MSR’s you will have no problem but if you have Tubbs or Atlas good luck.
