Ascent Trip Report

PB gives 2 Candidate High Point Areas for this County.

AREA 1, SAND HILL ..... easy .4 miles RT.
I followed Bob Martin's TR of 2003 for Sand Hill.
From the Henderson County Seat Building in Athens we drove north on Hwy#19 for 11.9 miles to a left on FM1861, 5.59 miles west to Big Rock and a right turn on vz2908, 1 mile right on vz2901, 1.12 miles stayed right at the fork on vz2925, .16 miles come to a dead-end at a gate (a house can be seen on the summit). We parked here this was my TH.
As I crawled under the gate a black lab dog with his wagging tail came to meet me, he turned out to be extremely friendly. He led me up the driveway northeast to the house at about 300 yards directly to the open front door, sat there sort of saying "Go on in.". I knocked/yelled-out, no-one answered. The black followed me to the small garage behind the house, sitting right on the summit, I walked its perimeter and called it good.
The black led me back down right to my parked van and went to say hello to Rose, we took photos.

AREA 2, EAST OF JACKSON (PB'S PHALBA) ..... open pasture land hike, 1 mile, 35 minutes RT.
From the intersection of hwy#198/FM1651 in Jackson (south of Canton) we traveled east of 1651 for 1.9 miles to a left on vz2212 then .5 miles north and to its dead-end at a gate in front of a garage, mailbox #600 on the right and #661 on the left. Open grazing land to the north. We found no-one home, we decided to go for it, Rose would stay back to face the music !!! hopefully to her liking.

I hopped the fence beside the gate and walked diagonally (northwest) across the pasture 200 yards to a fence corner and a north-south fence line. I hopped the gate and walked north on the west side the fence line, at 350 yards hopped another gate and continued 150 yards to a height-of-land where I crawled under the fence and walked east in tall grass/some brush to the summit ..... fairly open with a Hunter's tree chair and a campsite (fire pit/wood/bench), I chose my spot south of the camsite GPS 32.48626,-95.90415.
