Ascent Trip ReportStats:
7.2 miles round trip
Left car: 2:35pm
Arrived at summit: 3:53pm
I would recommend parking on Calle Colina Roca just off of Via Dieguenos. It is a less-traveled road with plenty of room for curbside parking. Spanish Bit Rd/Dr is the trail. It is just uphill from Calle Colina Road on the right. Go around the gate and walk down to the wash and cross it. There is a bridge across it, but on this rainy day, it was bone dry - odd. From here, the trail a mix of single track and old dirt road, varying in width as you go along. The use trail splits off the main trail at 3.1 miles and goes for ~0.5 miles to the summit. It begins by going a little down as it curves around the south side of a sub-ridge before ascending the west ridge right to the summit. There are a lot of flags and cairns along this route, and the route is surprisingly well-worn. It's one of the easiest use trails I have seen in the chaparral in quite a while. The summit register is in a pile of rocks below the summit block rock. It was raining lightly the whole way up and down. I was soaked by the time I hit the car, mostly from my pants brushing against plants and getting soaked that way.
Notes on gpx track:
My GPS batteries died right when I split off the main trail on to the use trail. It was raining pretty hard, so I didn't want to stop and switch the batteries. I then switched the batteries on the summit and made a track on the way down. Back home, I combined them into a single one-way track on the computer.
