Ascent Trip ReportTurning this one "red" since I have no intention of ever coming back and trying to stand on 36 different candidate spots just to claim this one for highpointing purposes. Once a surveyor proves what is the actual HP, I would come back. In the meantime, I selected one candidate point that would give me some excersise (which I value far more than wandering around flat contours with a GPS) and at 7 AM, in the cold morning, set out for some quick excercise and county exploration before attending to my Wetland Delineation Workshop. Of the multiple candidate HPs, I was most compelled in both interest and size of the top countour interval with the triple cluster near the Elementary School and City Hall.
Parked at City Hall investigated all the suspect points then ran down Laurel Court making the ravine my TH then circled around to the dead end, reversed, and headed up to the three HPs. At the cemetery there was a plaque explaining that this cemetery was the site of some 40 or so fallen Confederate Soldiers. I walked around and read the history some. This has to be my 100th Cemetery or gravestone HP!
Enjoyed the experience of the 3 spots and will leave the remaining 33 to the hard core CHPers.
