Ascent Trip Report

The COHP.ORG gives 2 Candidate High Point Areas, a good distance apart, I visited both of them.

AREA 1 (per PB) EAST OF PITTSBURGH ... 600 yards RT on a gravel road.
From the junction of hwy 380/286 in Sardis we traveled west on 380 for .3 miles to a right turn on Logan Ferry Road, .23 miles north to a gated dirt road on the left, parked here this was my TH. The HP capped with a Water Tank and a Transmission Power Line can be seen to the west at 300 yards.
I walked up the gravel road to the summit, a few electrified fences to deal with (but not on this visit).
After checking out the area around the tank I chose my spot, what I considered to be the natural HP, on the east side of the Tank (between the Tank and the Transmission Tower, inside the row of trees) at GPS 40.49455,-79.70200 ..... I should note however that the Allegheny/Westmoreland County Line is in this very vicinity, so I am not sure if my chosen spot is in Alleghny.
To ensure the HP one needs to walk over the bump 50 yards west of the Tank.

AREA 2 SOUTH OF PITTSBURGH .... see PB Library for Allegheny County High Point #2 ..... a grass road/bushwack of 900 yards RT.
Michael Schwartz's directions in his TR of 2000 still apply, no need to repeat.
I walked the gravel/grass road 300 yards north to the summit area, capped with 2 fenced-in Water Tanks and a Communication Tower. Not much natural ground around this Installation, so I walked the outside perimeter of the fence on the south side to the west side of the Tanks, where I picked up a small herd (animal) path heading westerly on the ridge.
I followed the winding path along the ridge as it goes through some very nasty/rough/dense brush (vines, briars) ..... no fun, on hands and knees at places.
Impossible to pick "the" HP ..... I guessed my spot at GPS 40.21080,-79.90675 about 100 yards west of the Tanks and well passed the spot elevation on the topo.
