Ascent of Tule Peak on 2012-10-13
|Date:||Saturday, October 13, 2012|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||8724 ft / 2659 m|
Ascent Trip ReportDrove 12 miles up Winnemucca Ranch road and turned right onto an unsigned dirt road just before a cattle guard. Road becomes pretty bumpy after 0.1-0.2 miles and leads to a what looked like a marshy area or spring where cows congregate. This late in the year, it was dry. There's a fenced area on the right with a "No Trespassing" sign. There's also a junction here which I missed because I drove in at night. I turned right, missing the obscured branch off to the left, and followed a road that began to parallel Winnemucca Ranch road. I parked after a total of 0.5 miles on this road and camped for the night.
I started hiking towards the peak in the morning over easy terrain and came to a dirt road after 1.25 miles of walking. This was probably the dirt road branch that I missed last night. One could save a total of 2.5 miles of walking driving up here. Just beyond the dirt road was a fence, and just beyond the fence was the only wash I had to cross on the hike. I followed the southwest ridge to the summit and saw Pyramid Lake for the first time. Amazing!
