Ascent Trip ReportDay 4: Started out with breakfast in the Sella hut at 5. Left at 5:50. Climbed back along the descent from yesterday, to Felikjoch, at about 4100 m. This was the decision point for trying the Liskamm West to East traverse. The wind was relaxed from yesterday and didn't bother us. Climbed the glacier in an NE direction, West of Felikhorn, reaching the SW ridge and followed it. Left the SW ridge and follow a steep line across ice, with good steps, to the NW ridge. Very exposed area. Still good steps, leading up to rocks and to the Liskamm West summit. Two ropes: Eva and Per, and then Caj and Josef.
Climbed across the rocks on Liskamm West and descended a snow field East, to a col and then up a narrow snow ridge to the East and main Liskamm summit. Still exposed.
Descended from Liskamm to Lisjoch in part with very steep steps, and then ascending a trail to Colle Gnifetti and up to Signalkuppe and the Margherita. Tired legs going up to Signalkuppe. Had a late lunch - there was not many places to stop and eat on the traverse. Rested before dinner. Lamb chops with potatoes - unbelievable dinner at 4550 m altitude. Sunny and nice day. Little to no wind. Clouds came in late and covered the Italian valley below the hut. A long good day. Great to have traversed the Liskamm. |
