Ascent Trip Report

NOTE: I put this accent as successful even though I only made it to WITHIN 30m of the summit (horizontal, not altitude)!

TRIP REPORT:
After being in Dolny Kubin, Slovakia in 2006 I noticed this mountain right away and wanted to climb it back then. But unfortunately I never got around to get up there. I was however recommended a route to climbing it, which I had noted down and used for my accent in 2009!

I was recommended to park at the holiday homes/cottages about a kilometre south of Jasenova and taking the roads and paths from there to the marked trail further up the mountain (red route). I did as suggested but couldn't find the right route at first so I had to ask one of the locals from one of the cottages how to get the right direction! He managed to tell me where to go and off I went.

The first part was through a small trail across some plains and through forests until I made it to the marked trail (red). Once on the marked trail it was fairly easy to follow even though not very well maintained in some areas.

At about 1000-1100m I encountered the first snow in the forest! It was only small amounts left over and could be walked across or around. When I reached higher altitudes there were open areas without any snow on them and everything went at a good pace.

Until I made it close to the summit! At about 1400m altitude the the trees began to be a little denser again and in the shadowy parts there were some snow and I had to be careful on my accent. Once I made it to close proximity of the summit the snow got very deep, in some places my legs sank into the snow to almost waist depth and it was impossible to follow the trail any more!

I decided to stop and take a short break before turning around and going back down. I estimate I made it to within 20-40m horizontally and maybe 10m altitude of the summit judging from satellite photos and pictures I took myself. But the snow was simply to deep that I wanted to bother trying to get through it!
