Ascent Trip Report

Take Hwy 26 to the Oregon Coast and between mile marker 10 and 11 is a road that goes North for about 6 miles back to the trailhead. It is clearly marked at the beginning of the road that it is saddle mountain. Go to the trailhead...and park in the parking lot. No fee required...only for overnight stays from my understanding. Follow the hill up...2 3/4 miles to the top where a stunning view awaits. One of the best short hikes in the coast. On a clear day you can see Rainer, Hood, Adams, and St. Helens, and Astoria and all the way down the coast line for at least 60 miles.

My first #1 Oregon County HP

Clatsop County Highpoint!

Found out the mountain was called by the Clatsop Tribe Walawahoof which is nest of the Thunderbird and was a place of cultural importance to the tribes in the coastal area.
