Ascent Trip ReportI headed west on the Blue Ridge Parkway from Mount Mitchell State Park towards Craggy Gardens. At the gardens are the two peaks of Craggy Dome and Craggy Pinnacle. As I was already short on time, I decided to take the short trip up through Craggy Gardens to the summit of Craggy Pinnacle. From the summit, one can see much of the Black Mountain Range as well as other portions of the Blue Ridge Parkway as it passes through the area. The much taller Craggy Dome sits across the road, awaiting for another day to invite climbers. There were rhododendrons in bloom along the trail, but it was past peak time and they weren't as impressive as during my trip at Grayson Highlands State Park the week before. |
