Ascent Trip Report

Cable cars once ran over the gap between Scott Ridge and Mahogany Rock. Relics of the station remain atop Scott Ridge. See my Mahogany Rock trip report for more on this curiosity.

From the Devils Garden overlook (BRP milepost 236) take the Mountain-to-Sea Trail eastbound. The MST generally follows the Parkway for over 200 miles, and this is where they part. Follow the MST 0.4 miles gradually uphill to a signed junction, elevation 3660. The left trail leads 5.6 miles down to Stone Mountain on its way toward the coast. To reach the top of Scott Ridge, take the right trail (an old access road) and proceed 0.25 miles.

This is a picturesque trail with a round trip of 1.3 miles. Unfortunately, the summit views are overgrown.

The name "Scott Ridge" is not on the topo, but I picked it up from stories about the cable cars. On listsofjohn, the peak is listed by its spot elevation, 3762.
