Ascent of Old Tom Mountain on 2012-08-25Date: | Saturday, August 25, 2012 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Motorized Transport to Trailhead: | 4x4 Vehicle | Peak: | Old Tom Mountain | Location: | USA-Idaho | Elevation: | 8733 ft / 2661 m |
Ascent Trip Report I reached the summit (8,773 feet) and placed the new summit register container next to the summit cairn. The temperature during the hike was in the mid to high 80's and accompanied by a brisk wind, which made for a rather enjoyable hike. I could not find the old register or container anywhere around the summit cairn. I can only image that one of three things happened to it: 1) It was buried under the cairn’s rocks, which I wasn’t about to go digging through, 2) It rolled off the summit and down the mountain or 3) Some previous person who summited took it with them. I did leave a mention of it in my entry into the new summit register, and advised that there was a plastic ziploc type bag in the container for it, if it was found. |
