Ascent Trip Report

Summited 8/17/12 with family. We camped at the Natl Forest Sundew Campground, which is a beautiful campground with almost half the campsites on the shore of Bucks Lake. Cost in August 2012 was $23 per night. 5 minute drive to the beginning of Road 24N33 at NW end of lake. This road is unmarked (as are most in seems, in Plumas NF). This is a definite Jeep road, especially along the Mill creek area. I was white knuckled in a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon with 4 skid plates on the undercarriage! I parked at the flatter area at 6.8 miles just for a little walk. The road goes to the summit. We walked the last mile or so, and met an archery deer hunter waiting for the next day, opening archery season. He had been going up there for the past 35 years, and said the road had gotten better over the years! He also said the interesting trailer/box has been there the 35 years he's been there. It has many communication switches and appears to be some kind of radio facility. There would have been great views except the best and only view was of the huge (62,000 acre) Chips fire in the valley to the north.
