Ascent Trip ReportFrom Placerville I took Mosquito Rd through the rural countryside, descending to cross the South Fork of the American River on a quaint old single-lane bridge, then climbing back up to higher ground. At about 8 miles is a landing strip at an intersection where one road heads west to CA 193 and Mosquito Rd continues north. About 3 miles from this intersection I turned left on the Slate Mountain Rd, which is unsigned coming from the south but well signed coming from the north. In about 1 mile I parked at the locked cable gate and walked the 1/4 mile to the top of Slate Mountain and the site of a former L.O. The views are limited by the foliage and are not particularly noteworthy.
