Ascent Trip ReportFrom Pozo go east 1.5 miles to Park Hill Rd, then 2.4 miles to Black Mountain Rd (FSR 29S02). This narrow, paved, undulating. and in places precipitous road goes via Navajo Saddle (3.0 miles) 7.0 miles to the major FAA Radar facility on Black Mountain just below the true summit. With care a standard passenger car can navigate the road without undue difficulty. The former Black Mountain L.O.site on the small summit is accessed by a dirt road near the Radar facility. It is marked by a prominent single pine tree visible from several miles around. From Black Mountain I returned to Navajo Saddle, headed east downhill past Navajo Camp, turning left on FSR 28S02, then right on FSR 29S15 (Red Hill Rd) to CA 58, 5.3 miles from Navajo Saddle. The Black Mountain area is a hotbed of ORV activity with an extensive network of roads to challenge the ORV enthusiast.
