Ascent Trip ReportFrom U.S. 99 north of Marysville turn off onto Skyway (exit 383), the road just short of Chico which heads to Paradise, Megalia, Stirling City, Inskip and over Humbug Summit, At Megalia, just before crossing the reservoir, turn right on Coutolenc Rd. After about 0.5 mile veer right on an unsigned rough dirt road downhill 1.5 miles to the narrow bridge which crosses the West Branch of the Feather River. The road then heads uphill, steeply for the first mile, then less so. During the upper part of the drive Sawmill Peak L.O. is plainly in view. After 3.6 mils from the river crossing, an obvious but unsigned dirt road goes right for 0.3 mile up the ridge to a locked gate. A walk of under 10 minutes leads to Calfire's unstaffed L.O. I found four benchmarks around the base of the L.O.--twp USGS and two survey markers. Distance from main road is approx. 5,9 miles.
