Ascent Trip Report

This was a Sierra Peaks Section sponsored day hike led my Harold McFadden and George Toby. Nine people signed up for this day hike, but I was the only trip participant to show up at the meeting place in the town of Olancha. From there, we drove over to and parked next to the west side of the Los Angeles Aqueduct, passing over a bridge along the way. Next, our group hiked up an old 4 x road until it disappeared, then headed up the slope to the ridge and then up the ridge to a plateau; the plateau includes many rugged pinnacles, one of which is Cartago. The leaders were somehow able to lead our small group over to and up the correct 3rd class pinnacle! Afterward, we retraced our route back to the vehicles, arriving before dark.
