Ascent Trip ReportWhile essentially an easy drive up, this is a pretty beautiful area. The SW summit has a BLM antenna and several boxes of electronic gear. The NE summit has a couple of cairns. I found Barney Metz's iced tea bottle register, placed in November 2009. Bob Schwab was the only other person to sign in prior to my arrival. The paper was a bit damp, but undamaged. I let it dry in the sun and screwed the lid tight - hopefully it will last.
The "foot or so of water" mentioned in the report by Ken Jones was present - after worrying about being stuck in a water feature the previous day at Jerome County I made a dash at this one, but it was quite tame and easily passable.
It was nice to escape the smoke haze a bit, which had been thick the day before (and would be thick later in the day) further north.
On the NV border, this seems in the middle of nowhere, but it isn't that bad a drive from Twin Falls. It was possibly my favorite on this 6 cohp UT & ID trip. (Box Elder was nice, but crowded - there was no one past the camping areas on the approach here.) |
