Ascent Trip Report

On day one, our group backpacked from Whitney Portal up the trail to the North Fork of Lone Pine Creek, then followed an occasional use trail along the creek up to upper Boy Scout Lake, where we made camp. The next day, we made our way over towards the base of Mount Carillon's south slope, then climbed up the snow covered slope using an ice ax and crampons to the plateau located south of Mount Carillon, where we dropped off the ice gear. From there, we continued up to the Russell-Carillon Saddle, then climbed the peak's third class East Arête route to the west summit of Russell, passing over the east summit along the way. Afterwards, we returned to our camp at Upper Boy Scout Lake. On the third day, we backpacked out to the vehicle.
