Ascent Trip ReportI had trouble finding the turnoff for Greens Peak from the Eagle Lake Rd (A1), but got good directions from the Calfire station near Eagle Lake. At the summit of A1, just before it heads northerly down to Eagle Lake, a wide dirt road heads east and quickly branches, one branch continuing directly east, the other heading off in more of a NE direction. I took the road east to meet the FS road that comes from Susanville to the south. TI followed this road to Colman Lake. No signs, but from here there are no other choices but to head easterly from Colman Lake for about 1.5 miles to Greens Peak and Calfire's Don Landon L.O. (Dan Landon was a CDF man killed in action in WWII.) I spent nearly 45 minutes talking with veteran staffer Don Hagen and enjoying another fine panoramic experience. On returning 4.1 miles to the Eagle Lake Road, I stayed on the easier good dirt road from Colman Lake to the highway, meeting the other road I had followed on my approach.
