Ascent Trip ReportThis was a Sierra Peaks Section trip lead by Bill T. Russell and Duane McRuer. On Saturday, we backpacked up to Horton Lake, set up camp, then followed a jeep road to an abandoned mine located at about 11,800' in elevation. From the mine, our group ascended a steep chute to the summit of Mount Tom. A snow storm blew in overnight, dropping about 6" of snow on us, so on Sunday we abandoned our planned climb of Basin Mountain and hiked out to the vehicles.
