Ascent Trip ReportOur group spent two days backpacking in from Mineral King over Glacier and Black Rock Passes to the Big Arroyo. On day three, we day hiked to the top of Red Kaweah from the Big Arroyo via the peak's class 2-3 West Face route. A thunderstorm started at about 11,600' in elevation while descending back to camp, and we all got soaking wet due to heavy and prolonged rain. On day four, Diann Fried and I made an unsuccessful attempt to climb Black Kaweah (please see my 08-06-1997 Black Kaweah trip report). On day five, I backpacked out to the trailhead while the rest of the group stayed in the Big Arroyo to climb additional peaks. Also, trip stats are from Mineral King.
