Ascent Trip Report

This was a 6 day backpack to climb Bolton Brown and Pyramid Peak. It took John Fisanotti and I 1-1/2 days to backpack over Taboose Pass to Upper Basin, camping at Lake 3560 meters. From the lake, John headed off to climb Split Mountain and I headed off to climb Bolton Brown. I hiked north from the lake up the valley to a 4020 meter col located about 3/10 of a mile west of the peak. The route is class 1-2. From the col, I climbed up towards Bolton Brown, staying on the north side of the ridge, which is class 2 to just below the summit; the final climb up to the top involved about 30’ of high class 3. Afterwards, I descended the south side of the peak, which had about 30’ of class 3 rock right after leaving the summit, then it was class 2 down the southwest slope to the lake. Meanwhile, John successfully climbed Split Mountain, returning back to the lake mid-afternoon. Please see my 09/01/2005 Pyramid Peak trip report for additional trip info and stats.
