Ascent of Bandera Mountain-West Peak on 2012-08-04
|Date:||Saturday, August 4, 2012|
|Ascent Type:||Unsuccessful - Turned Back|
|Peak:||Bandera Mountain-West Peak|
| Elevation:||4700 ft / 1432 m|
Ascent Trip ReportTurned back at top of ridge due to running out of water on an extremely hot day--felt I couldn't get back down safely if I pushed on to the summit in a dehydrated (and possibly heat-exhausted) condition. Most of the group I was with also turned back.
If the weather hadn't been so hot, or if I'd brought 5-6 liters of water (I had 3 liters), I could have successfully made the summit. I had gotten past probably the hardest part of the climb--a steep, exposed Class 2 boulder scramble to the top of the ridge.
