Ascent Trip Report

From Shining Rock Gap, took the Old Butt Knob Trail a short distance then bushwhacked alongside the wall of exposed whitish stone towards the top. After a little ways ran out of trail and ended up bushwhacking through some mountain laurel towards the top. Not recommended; instead, stay on the trail longer than we did, watching for a small open area with a side trail leading away (on the left when ascending from the gap) where the trail turns towards the east after ascending for some ways. Follow this fairly obvious trail towards the top. We descended this way and returned to the parking area where we'd started via the Ivestor Gap Trail.
