Ascent Trip ReportHot sunny day, about 32 C, and had a great view of the Welsford and valley area. This relatively steep trail starts out rooty, then quite rocky, then a mixture of the two towards the summit. I have hiked this trail several times in the past and have only seen others hike to the bald open lookout. I have not yet found a trail that leads to the summit of Mount Douglas, which is another 500 m. further north and about 30 metres higher.
There are no signs indicating where the trailhead is. Take Hwy 7 to Welsford and turn west onto Rte 101. Drive 500 m. and immediately after the new overpass, turn north onto the unpaved road which leads to a flat, open area. At the north end of the lot, the trailhead starts at a large mound of dirt that one must walk over. There were a number of strips of orange tape tied to some bushes, but no hiking sign. The trail becomes more obvious on the other side of the mound of dirt.
Although I like to hike with trekking poles, they're not an absolute necessity for this trail. |
