Ascent Trip Report

Caught TH at last pullout southbound over Luther Pass, at south end of meadow on west side of highway 89. Follow path then low ridge up and into woods to summit, no distinct primary trail identified. If bear to visible summit from trailhead will end up at false summit north of remaining ascent to true summit another quarter mile distant and more to the south. Entire hike is treed until summit ridge is reached, where break out onto west facing rock escarpment. Summit box and USGS monuments are at south peak area of summit ridge. Great views to south over Scotts Lake and Stevens Peak area, and Hope Valley.

Hike is through granite until about 9,000 feet when gray limestone is encountered, similar to that above Crater Lake to the south. Some altered silicic rocks were seen below the limestone. The summmit rock appeared granitic, rather than volcanic as with Stevens and Red Lake Pks. to the south.
