Ascent Trip Report

I came to Parc Regional du Massif du Sud primarily for the Bellechasse and Les Etchemins CoHPs. The plan for today was to climb Montagne du Midi (Bellechasse), Montagne du Midi-Sommet Sud (Les Etchemins) and Mont Chocolat a lesser peak in Bellechasse. This TR covers these 3 peaks.
I arrived last and got a campsite at the Parc's des Erables Campground.

The RT hike for the day to 3 peaks was 20.3km, 6h50 hours.

MONTAGNE DU MIDI.
There are 2-910 meter contours in Bellechase County, Montagne du Midi and Mont Saint-Magloire, both located in Parc Regional du Massif du Sud. PB gives the elevation of these 2 peaks as 916M and 915M respectively with Midi being the CoHP (the National Library of Canada topographic maps confirm these elevation).
The Parc has an network of multi-use trails and an excellent/detailed/topographic Trail Map. This map gives the elevation of the foregoing 2 peaks as 915M and 917M respectively with Saint-Magliore being the higher peak and therefore the CoHP.
Because of this difference I believe both peaks are Candidates for the CoHP and therefore need to be climbed in order to claim "successful". I will forward this info to Greg for his pursual.

I left the TH parking at Trois Fourches, southbound on Sentier du Midi #C (a gravel road), 1.7km turned right, crossed the river and turned left on Sentier de la Vallee #D (gravel Road), .9km picked up the hiking trail on the right, Sentier des Parois #16, which climbs westerly 1.2km to a T-Junction with Sentier des Dryades #13. I turned left and climbed 2.3km to a T-Junction with Sentier des Sources #9, turned right and climbed .9km to the summit (7km, 2h35 hours from TH). The ski resort is to the right on the north side of the mountain.

A service road of sorts goes right over the summit southbound. I chose my HP just east of the road, a meter inside the woods GPS 46.60486,-70.48808. The PB coordinates puts the spot in a much lower elevation.
From here I headed south to the Sommet Sud.

MONTAGNE DU MIDI-SOMMET SUD
An easy ridge walk with 2 short bushwacks.
There are 2-910M contours in Les Etchemins County, both in Parc Regional du Massif du Midi and both on the same ridge south of Montagne du Midi, about 400M apart.
From Montagne du Midi I walked south on the gravel road to a second crossing (stop sign) with road #G, I turned left and continued on #G to the summit of Area 1, at about 2km from Montagne du Midi.
AREA 1
At 2km immediately after the second switchback road #G comes to a crest, this is the HP area. The road here has been built up and is higher than the surrounding ground. I checked-out the inside the woods for high ground, and came back to the road and chose the natural rock outcrop on the shoulder of the road as my HP, GPS 46.59522,-70.48412. I built a small cairn and added orange tape to near-by trees.
AREA 2
I continued southbound about 400 meters to where the road circles to the right and comes to its crest. 20 yards before this crest, on the left inside the dense woods at 15 meters, I chose my HP at a large dead tree, GPS 46.59218,-70.48253. I added orange tape to the spot. A bump across the road contends for the HP.

I returned the same way over Montagne du Midi on the way to Mont Chocolat.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MONT CHOCOLAT
From Montagne du Midi I descended the #9/13 trails to the junction of #13/4(Sentier du Mont Chocolat (3.9km), where I continued/climbed the #4 to the obvious summit at another 1km which is wooded with no views, GPS 46.61770,-70.47151 ..... 4.9km, 1h15 hours from Midi.
A .5kmn loop trail past the summit offers 2 nice lookouts.
I descended to the TH on #4 and #C trails, 3.6km in 40 minutes.
