Ascent Trip Report

It was a hot day in July. The path started out very narrow with just a little bit of bush whacking to get by the overgrown bushes. We followed along a muddy path upward that had recently seen some horse traffic. It soon opened up a bit wider. There were patches of snow along the way that we used to cool ourselves off a bit as we continued on. There were places where the path was more unmaintained as we walked around an overgrown bush here and there...ducked under and about and over fallen trees...but all in all a good path.

As we neared the summit we left the trail and walked up a grassy hillside and, using GPS, found our summit. We then walked East to the 'other' summit to ensure we had truly summitted Mt Misery as no one is for sure certain as to which summit is THE summit. :)

The second summit was a zig zag route through downed trees and then to another grassy hill to touch upon the other summit.

Beautiful views abound on all sides of both summits: many mountains, peaks (including Diamond Peak), forests, canyons and whatnot.

It was truly a lovely hike where I got to be the navigator and use the GPS and Topo maps for the first time. Eric had me navigate the way back, as well, which was cool to see if I could remember how we got there once we had left the path.

I really enjoyed it. :)
