Ascent Trip Report

An old path (formerly part of the Mountain-to-Sea Trai)l leads up the ridge from the Blue Ridge Parkway just south of milepost 339. The path is not signed but starts on the east side about 50 yards south of the sign for Crabtree Falls. Park on the shoulder.

Hike a quarter mile eastbound till the trail crests. The brush-covered peak is on the R. Nothing triplicate to explain the Three Knobs name. No views from the summit, either, though there are some nice views to the south and east as you hike up.

If you're looking for views, you need not leave your car--just pull over at Three Knobs Overlook on the Parkway. Until now, I always thought "Three Knobs" on the overlook sign referred to the mountains I was looking at, not the one I was standing on.
