Ascent Trip Report

The drive toward Basque Summit was fairly challenging with numerous water/mud crossings, brush overlapping the road in places, and several rocky sections. Beyond the summit, the road was very slick with mud and snow, but otherwise one might be able to drive to 7800 without any more difficulty than reaching the summit.

This was a much harder hike when we did it due to considerable snow (postholing 2 feet deep in places). Thus when we made deviations from the road (where there was a road), that's the cause.

Maybe it was the conditions, but for us, cutting across to avoid extra gain by peak 9568 was very easy.
