Ascent of Mount Evans on 2012-05-28Date: | Monday, May 28, 2012 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Peak: | Mount Evans | Location: | USA-Colorado | Elevation: | 14264 ft / 4347 m |
Ascent Trip ReportDrove up to go skiing down its north face, there really wasn't enough snow on the top of the chute to ski into it, but I hiked in anyways. So I had the sketchiest descent into a ski line of my life, 45 minutes and 50 feet later, I began to ski down and could go almost to the summit lake, at about 12,900 elevation. And another skier told me at the bottom I was the first person he had seen or heard of drop in without ropes in the summer. So I definitely got lucky and made some stupid choices, but it was the first 14er I've skied off of. 55 to go...I think I'll stick to skiing them in the winter. |
