Ascent Trip Report

My younger sister Jessica joined me on this day hike. It was fairly cold when we began, however, by the time we reached the summit, it wasn't too bad. We accessed the peak via the Byron Herbert Reece Trail to the AT, heading North for 1 1/2 miles. There was plenty of frost heave, and the creeks were running under sheets of ice.

It was so clear at the summit that Stone Mountain, Kennesaw Mountain and the Atlanta skyline was clearly visible. I wouldn't have believed that you could see the skyline from here. It wasn't until Jessica said she could see it that I looked and, there it was.

After enjoying the view, taking some pics, and eating our packed lunch, we descended the same way we came. A quick ride later and we were at the Brasstown Bald parking area. You could still see the Atlanta skyline from the observation tower. What an end to a great day of hiking.
