Ascent Trip ReportAfter approximately 20 hours of rain, I had cabin (or tent) fever so bad that I bought some good rain gear and began this hike in a downpour. I wanted to do a loop hike using Sunset Ridge and Laura Cowles Trail, but the ranger discouraged me from Laura Cowles. He said it would basically be a waterfall and too slick. Well, Sunset Ridge in many places was a waterfall and I did slip and fall, giving my tail bone a good whack.
I passed not a soul on the trail; one of the benefits of rainy hiking. As I neared the peak, the clouds broke and I was able to peer down into the valley. I could see Lake Champlain shimmering in the distance. This only lasted a minute, then it was a white out again. I am grateful for that glimpse, and want to return on a clear day.
