Ascent Trip Report

At the recommendation of a local, we decided to spend our first night of a Pinhoti section hike at the summit of Horn Mountain. From the trail, reaching the summit required a difficult climb with already-tired legs. If there was a view, the rain kept us from enjoying it. We were pleasantly surprised to find a privy at the summit, and the picnic shelter was in good shape and kept the rain off. We didn't climb the fire tower, I believe because the lower flights of stairs had been removed. Bring plenty of water if you camp there, because the nearest water source we found was maybe five miles to the north on the Pinhoti.
