Ascent Trip Report

On a drive from Spa-Francorchamps to Berlin, I decided to tag off 3 German high points today, this being the first of the three.

I ended up being able to drive most of the way up, per my car's GPS and some good fortune perhaps. The road left from Niedersfeld, as Roy mentioned in the last report - following signs to Hochheide. At a switchback, I turned off the paved road and onto gravel. Local landowners were actively (selective) logging in the area, but as it was Sunday, no-one was around and the gate was open. The only sign I saw at the entrance was about leashing dogs, but with everything quite messed up around the gate, it's hard to know if this was just temporary (likely, as it is more of a walking area). In any event, the road followed to within about a 1km walk to the summit - giving me a little more light to work with later in the day (and I would need every lumen of it!). Normally I'd preferred the hike, but the weather was lousy and I had more on the agenda than a multi-km mud slog.
