Ascent Trip ReportMade this a bit harder than it needed to be! Parked at the pull-off just west of the overpass. I figured I was RIGHT on the trail. Had my map and my GPS, which confirmed that I was right on the trail that passed south and east of Rockhouse mountain. I walked down to the guardrail, then headed into the woods. I didn't see a trail, but the bushwhacking was easy and after about 200 yards I picked it up. When it swung close to Rockhouse, I just headed up the short rocky slope to the top. Highpoint is on the southwest end of the ridge. From there, Jackie Jones mountain seems higher. I just dropped down from the rocky top and bushwhacked in the general direction of my truck. On the topo's, there is a swamp, and it is there. Careful. As I got close to my truck, I picked up that trail again. For kicks, I followed it out and it took me right to my truck. Annoyed, I muttered under my breath that it would have been nice of the New York State Park personnel to put blazes up so you could see it from the road. Then I saw they did...I just walked right past them! |
