Ascent Trip ReportA drive up with a short track walk .... 500 yards RT
I used Jobe Wymore's excellent TR of 2000, his directions still apply today, I was surprised to see that the final access road to the Towers has not been gated, not the case in numerous other Counties where progress tends to fence-in things.
We approached from the west, from I30/exit 178 (east of Mount Pleasant) we drove south on TX259 for 4 miles to a left on FM77, then east 16.5 miles to a right on CR2345 (signed Jones Hill Cemetery). We traveled southeast on 2345, stayed left at the fork just past the Cemetery and at 1.8 miles from 77, at the crest-of-the-road, turned left on the dirt road. The rough road climbs .3 miles steeply to the summit, we parked at the first Tower. The summit is capped with 2 Communication Towers with sheds at its west end, a track runs east along the ridge 75 yards to the HP. I chose my spot to the right of the track at GPS 33.17354, -94.46626.
It's advised to continue northeast on the ridge to a large open area with outstanding views in all directions .... rare for this part of Texas.
