Ascent Trip Report

Gingercake Mtn is near the northern terminus of the Jonas Ridge Trail, on the east rim of the Linville Gorge. From NC181 23 miles north of Morganton, turn onto Gingercakes Road (marked by a NFS sign for Table Rock), then L on Table Rock Road, then R on Rhododendron Lane, and then L on Grandview. This road dead-ends in a small parking area, and the last 100 yards may be too rough for some cars. From here, the roundtrip hike to the summit is 0.6 miles. Continue a little farther down the ridge to see a precariously balanced rock known as Sitting Bear.
