Ascent Trip ReportTo navigate the dirt roads, one can follow Google Maps as far as what it shows as the end of Horn Spring Road. From there, look at the topo map, and follow the obvious route. The dirt roads to the trailhead were worse than I was expecting - it took about an hour from the pavement to the trailhead. At one point the road was re-routed and is fairly decently marked with cairns. Note that there is currently no marking of the wilderness boundary (changed?), and there was evidence that people have driven beyond even the end of where the topo map indicates the road ends (700m).
From the end of the road, one can follow the prominent wash around to the north. Once one passes out of the wash and over a minor saddle, one can start heading up towards the ridge that heads southwest towards peak 1285m. There is a decent use trail on top of that ridge. If one stays low approaching that ridge, one will need to cross numerous washes (some of them deep) whereas if one heads up to meet the ridge at about 1050m, one can bypass most of them.
There is a cairn at a good spot to leave the ridge and traverse over to the saddle between peak 1285m and the high point, but I did not see any evidence of trail between those points. Once at the saddle, the use trail resumes to the summit. Awesome views the whole day.
