Ascent Trip ReportAs far as I can determine, Bonds Mountain is the 6th highest named summit in Mississippi. I parked my car on the east side of the mountain near an unposted locked gate. My son, Marshall, and I were able to follow a dirt road in good condition to the summit after about 1 mile of hiking. The topo map indicated a summit benchmark, but we could not locate it. Heavy logging and logging road construction in the area, especially near the summit, probably caused the loss of the benchmark. The only view from the summit was to the east, but it was a great one. This was the last highpoint my son and I climbed to complete our goal of reaching the 13 highest named summits in Mississippi. It only required 2 1/2 days for us to reach this goal and we felt quite lucky to be successful since it was done during deer hunting season, which we did not discover until we had already made the long drive from our homes in Missouri.
