Ascent Trip ReportAs far as I can determine, Crum Mountain is the 7th highest named summit in Mississippi. My son, Marshall, and I used an access road from the east, but we reached an open gate that was heavily posted about 3/4 mile from the summit. Since it was early in the morning during deer season, we had a difficult time deciding whether we should continue or not. I thought it might be wise to leave the car and hike through the woods, instead of on the road, but, of course, this would have caused us to be in the area for a much longer period of time than if we just drove on in. It took over 15 minutes before we finally decided to take our chances and drive into the posted area and make a quick ascent. Fortunately, we never saw anybody else, even though the road showed very heavy use. This road took us to within .17 mile of the summit. From here we followed an ATV trail that was in very bad condition to a summit with three benchmarks, but no view due to the forest. We still had an open area on the ATV trail for our summit photo. We ran to and from the summit and raced out of the area, so we hopefully would not meet an unhappy hunter. We felt very lucky to bag this highpoint, even though it was a very easy short climb.
