Ascent Trip Report

Due to the disturbing lack of snow I decided to get some hiking in while everyone else in the Poconos house we rented for New Year's moped around and lamented their lost skiing opportunities. It was actually a quite beautiful day out, so I hopped on Route 115 north and watched out for the sign for the Dixon R. Miller Recreation Area on the left side of the two lane highway. Pulling in to the parking area I was the only car.

I headed up what the pamphlet called "Jack's Connector Trail" which like all trails in the park were meant for ATVs. The climb was not particularly steep but nonetheless enjoyable. After 0.5 miles came the junction with "Jack's Road" or perhaps what was once Jack's Road, since at this point it was just a cleared grassy path. After another few hundred years to a few radio towers and the Pohopoco Fire Tower. After checking nearly the entire summit I found the wooden sign announcing the otherwise nondescript peak at 2,213'. I took the paved portion of Jack's Road back to the car.

When I came back down to the parking lot there was one other car with a father and his son fiddling with an RC car in the gravel lot. Other than that there was no one else in the park. I then went off to try to scramble up Kistler Ledge in nearby Tobyhanna State Park.
