Ascent of Maple Creek Lookout on 2008-12-19Date: | Friday, December 19, 2008 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Peak: | Maple Creek Lookout | Location: | USA-Tennessee | Elevation: | 700 ft / 213 m |
Ascent Trip ReportThe Carroll county highpoints are very easy to find off I-40 in the Natchez Trace State Park.
Sand Hill is/was being clear cut and offers a better view to the northwest now over the forest but the shallow pit at the top. The sun was setting during my visit, but with the clear cutting, one has a good view of NTSP to the northwest. The Maple Creek Tower is still standing but it is missing its first 20 steps, so no climbing up it sadly.
Take exit 116 off of I-40 for TN-114 and go north for 1.5 mi Slight right at Pecan Tree Rd. Sand Hill is on the left after .7 miles Continue and stay left to stay on Pecan Tree Rd and the tower will be on your left in about a mile.
Also note, the Henderson county highpoints are only a few miles south of the interstate at this same exit.
Maple Creek Tower - 35.85546 -88.23783 Sand Hill - 35.84259 -88.24399
The Benton county HP (Round Top) is not far east of here.
