Ascent Trip Report

Joined TomC aka trail dad, and Scott J, to assist trail dad with last of VT peaks for his list. Drove to Mendon, followed Bob & Geri's bushwhack directions which were wrong... did not find 3rd cairn at top of hill unless it was removed. Official herd path was well past top of trail and down a slight slope, with a very large cairn. Bushwhack was uneventful; found canister and signed it. Took herd path out but then quickly lost it and used gps back out. Then jumped in car and drove to Pico for a modified loop. Stupidly we decided just to trek it down the slopes from the summit. BAD IDEA. The grass became so tall we could barely see over it, and the ground underneath was horridly uneven with many flowing streams. Very slow going getting down the slope. The only saving grace was the highly varied wildflowers. As soon as we intersected with a dirt road we hoofed it back to the road and walked up the large hill and back to the car. Views were awesome coming down the slopes, but we should have stuck to the trail.
