Ascent Trip Report

From the village of Niedersfeld along route 480, south of Olsberg, follow signs to Hochheide. The road makes several turns and ascends with deteriorating quality. While it is possible to drive to the Hochheide Hütte, there is a parking area on the left where the road makes a hair-pin turn to the right and a gate straight ahead. Parking here, ascend along the road the road that goes straight until you reach a 5-way intersection. The Hochheide Hütte is to the right and the way to Langerberg is to the left. There are many signs, some of them confusing, but the correct route follows the Rothaarsteig (Red-haired Climb) all the way to the summit. The route is well marked with a red square with an underlined ~ symbol.
There are benches, a sign and summit cross at the top of the province, as well as a box than has a stamp for a local walking club, allowing you to have some proof of your ascsent (in case you forget your camera as I did).
The trip is about 1.5 miles each way.
