Ascent Trip ReportSecond of 2 peaks on mountain bike for the day. After rocketing down Brush Mtn from Marion CG to Mil Potrero Hwy on the mountain bike, it was back to the Yaris for the short ride up to Apache Saddle. Unlike the road up Brush Mtn, there is a huge turnout on the dirt road right next to Mil Potrero Hwy, so I had plenty of room to unload the bike from the roof of the Yaris. I made pretty good time up the dirt road to the main ridgeline. One vehicle passed me on my way up. Once the main east-west ridgeline is reached (at the junction with the 4WD road from Brush), it is pretty easy riding to the high point of the road. I ran into the vehicle again here as they were on their way down. I stashed the bike in the trees again and made the very short walk to the summit. There is a cairn on top containing the summit register. Since the summit was covered in snow, I didn't kick back and relax here. I walked back to the bike and found some nice dry pine needles to stretch out on and eat the other half of my lunch. Back on the bike for the ride down - let the fun begin! I am very glad that I had my sunglasses on for the ride down. My face and all my clothes got covered in mud. The glasses prevented mud in the eyes. Couldn't have been a better ride down!
