|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
|Peak:||Hal Foss Peak|
| Elevation:||7179 ft / 2188 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI looped from the Dungeness Trail to Royal Basin. Few notes: At the end of Heather Creek trail there is a way trail that I lost almost immediately. I went up on the right side of the creek which was overgrown, steep, and arduous. On reflection I would try the right side which seems to have much less vegetation.
There is plenty of water everywhere.
There is a wonderful meadow at about 5300 feet. Nice for camping.
The summits are mostly walk ups on the ridge. Different options are available. With dropping from the ridge a tiny bit if it is too craggy..
The drop from Fricaba into thevMilk Creek basin is fairly loose stone and scree, and steep but not at all exposed. There are snow fields for getting down easier if you have crampons. I considered the NW ridge but it looked a bit craggy and exposed. I may try another time now that I now the area. You can easily also get to Royal Basin by dropping into Deception basin. There is a visible boot path over the low point of the EW ridge connecting Deception to Fricaba.
