Ascent Trip Report

John and I camped at trailhead and left at 740 am. Initial hike to powerlines not steep, then became steep past powerlines. Snow still present in upper creek and then in meadow. Climb up gully from meadow to ridge was very loose. From top of glley you follow trail around west side of Queens face. Some scrambling on this part. Trail from col up to Kings Peak summit is steeper with several spots where you need to scramble up small shoots.
Day was spectacularly clear. Mt. Waddington was clearly seen from the summit, standing out head and shoulders above the rest of the coastal range. To the south Strathcona Park was visible in its pristine beauty. The peaks of Elkhorn, Rambler, and The Hinde were all lined up and impressive.
A peculiar reception awaited us on the summit.n An ant nest was releasing its flying ants. They seemed to be coming out of the small cairn on the summit. They were swarming everywhere. Although they do not bite it was irritating as they were landing then crawling all over us. Once the photos were done we had to leave the summit to eat to avoid them.
